The Bachelor of Arts in English degree provides a broad foundation in the study of writing and texts, including literature, film and media, and rhetoric. Students with a concentration in Creative Writing choose advanced workshop-style courses in fiction, poetry, screenwriting, and other forms of creative written expression. The degree culminates with a Senior Seminar in Fiction Writing or Poetry Writing.

Overview

General Requirements
Students in the Concentration take three creative writing courses in sequence, following either a fiction or a poetry track:
- ENG 3315: Introduction to Creative Writing
- ENG 3348: Creative Writing: Fiction and 4348: Senior Seminar in Fiction Writing (fiction track)
- ENG 3349: Creative Writing: Poetry and 4349: Senior Seminar in Poetry Writing (poetry track)
In addition to general education requirements, all English majors take 36 hours of English courses, including First-Year English and Sophomore Literature courses. Of those 36 hours, students must complete 24 hours of advanced courses, including:
- ENG 3301
- 2 Early Literature courses
- Single Author course
- 4000-level course
Students may satisfy multiple requirements with one course.
